Estill Voice Training

What is Estill Voice Training?

Developed by the American singer, voice teacher and researcher Josephine Estill, Estill Voice Training (EVT) is an evidence-based model of voice production which is respected worldwide and used by actors, speakers, speech and language therapists, voice teachers and singers in all styles of vocal music.
Inspired by ice-skating, where competitors are required to present both compulsory figures and artistic displays, Jo Estill researched 13 different functions involved in voice production and examined 6 voice qualities which can be “mixed” by combining these functions. The EVT system’s main aim is to develop healthy control of the voice, independent of genre, thereby giving the artist confidence and freedom of expression.
Eleanor Forbes is one of the few accredited teachers of Estill Voice Training (EMT – Estill Master Trainer) in Germany and was awarded Service Distinction in 2021. She offers individual and group lessons in EVT and has organized courses (e.g. Level One & Level Two) with certified course instructors (EMCI) from different countries. Anyone who has attended Level One and Level Two courses can participate in her special practice groups, to deepen their understanding of the model and apply the Figures.
